Kepemimpinan Transformasional Rektor dalam Meningkatkan Mutu Tata Kelola Perguruan Tinggi Islam di Era Digital

This study examines the role of transformational leadership by university rectors in enhancing the quality of governance in Islamic Higher Education Institutions (IHEIs) in Madura in the digital era. Rapid digital transformation demands IHEIs to adapt by strengthening digitalization in learning, academic services, and technology-based management systems. This research employs a qualitative case study approach to explore the strategies, challenges, and impacts of transformational leadership by rectors on governance improvement. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, participant observation, and documentation from various IHEIs in Madura. Findings reveal that transformational leadership, emphasizing exemplary behavior, inspirational motivation, intellectual stimulation, and individualized consideration, effectively fosters an adaptive, innovative, and quality-oriented work culture. Intensive digital implementation through academic information systems and learning management systems (LMS) has been successful, supported by training and competence enhancement for lecturers and staff. The transformation of IAIN Madura to UIN Madura and accreditation improvements demonstrate the success of leadership in advancing institutional capacity and quality. Nevertheless, challenges such as limited digital infrastructure, cultural resistance to technology, and funding constraints require collaborative cross-sector strategies. This study provides theoretical and practical contributions to the development of digital leadership in Islamic higher education to produce competent and characterful graduates in the digital era.
